The long-standing drinking water shortage in Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan is now moving towards getting away gradually. The state government has taken concrete steps in view of the protests and problems of the common people. In this series, the plan of setting up tubewells in 8 major areas of the city has been approved by the special efforts of Dr. Kirori Lal Meena, Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, Rural Development and Disaster Management.

In which areas will tubewells be installed
According to administrative sources, the 8 areas where there are plans to install tubewells include areas where the most complaints of water crisis have been received. These areas have been selected keeping in mind the geographical location, water level and population density.

Dr. Meena held several rounds of meetings with departmental officials on this issue and also inspected the area. They said,
“It is our priority to overcome the water crisis of the people of Sawai Madhopur. This tubewell scheme will provide immediate relief, while water projects are also underway for long -term solutions.”

Significantly, local citizens, social organizations and public representatives had demonstrated several times in Sawai Madhopur for the last few months. Women and children also attracted the attention of the administration by taking to the streets to demand water.
This decision of the government is being seen as a positive response to these movements.

The city council and ward councilors have welcomed the government’s move. A councilor said, “This decision will bring relief for the citizens facing water problems for years.” He has also demanded a rapid implementation of tubewell installation.
