New Delhi. The Supreme Court has issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Investigation Agency (CBI) on the bail plea of BRS Legislative Council member K. Kavitha, who is lodged in Tihar Jail in the money laundering case related to the Delhi liquor policy scam. Mukul Rohatgi, presenting arguments on behalf of Kavitha in the court, said that this case is also like that of Aam Aadmi Party leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia. My client has been in jail for the last five months, he should be granted bail. The court has fixed August 20 as the date for the next hearing of the case. Let us tell you that Sisodia has recently been granted bail by the Supreme Court. While Kejriwal has also got bail in the ED arrest case and he has filed a bail plea in the Supreme Court today against the arrest by the CBI.
Earlier, K. Kavitha’s bail plea was rejected by the Delhi High Court on July 1. After this, Kavitha has approached the apex court. K. Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister KCR, was arrested by the ED from her house in Hyderabad on March 15. After this, the CBI sought permission from the Rouse Avenue Court to question Kavitha and during the interrogation, the CBI also arrested Kavitha from ED custody on April 11. Earlier, while rejecting the bail plea, the court had said that Kavitha cannot be called an insecure woman who can be made a scapegoat. She is a highly educated woman and has a good position in the society. Prima facie, her efforts to destroy evidence in the liquor policy case show her active participation in this case.
It is worth noting that ED and CBI have accused Kavitha of being in touch with South lobby and playing a major role in the liquor policy scam. The investigating agency said that a businessman from South met AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal. This businessman was asked to arrange Rs 100 crore. After this, this businessman met K. Kavitha in Hyderabad. Kavitha played a big role in arranging this amount. CBI said that this money was collected through hawala for Goa elections.
