Kashmir Heatwave: Who has cast an evil eye on the paradise of the country? On one hand, monsoon is at its peak in other states of the country. It is raining heavily everywhere. On the other hand, heat waves are raging in Kashmir. And that too is not an ordinary thing, the heat has broken the record of 25 years of the month of July. Actually, Kashmir is in the grip of severe heat and on Sunday, the highest temperature of July in 25 years was recorded at many places in the valley. Now the question is, how much have we messed with nature that Kashmir is experiencing such intense heat in July.
The condition is so bad due to the scorching heat that an order has been issued to close the schools so that it does not affect the children. The Kashmir School Department has ordered the closure of schools from 20 to 30 July due to the scorching heat. According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature in Srinagar city was recorded at 36.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday. This was the hottest July day since 9 July 1999, when the mercury had reached 37 degrees Celsius.

Broken records for many years
The hottest July day in Srinagar was recorded on July 10, 1946, when the mercury reached 38.3 degrees Celsius. South Kashmir’s Qazigund and Kokernag towns also recorded their hottest July day on Sunday. The maximum temperature in Qazigund was recorded at 35.6 degrees Celsius, which is higher than the previous highest temperature of 34.5 degrees Celsius recorded on July 11, 1988.
Hope for rain
The mercury in Kokernag reached 34.1 degrees Celsius, while 33.3 degrees Celsius was recorded on July 3 this year. The mercury in this town of South Kashmir had reached 33 degrees only once before on July 8, 1993. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain at different places in the Kashmir Valley in the next 24 hours, due to which the temperature is expected to fall.
