Schools had to be closed due to the scorching heat. Apart from this, special time was given to children to drink water in schools. Now the rain is showing its fierce form in the same Kerala. Due to heavy rains in Kerala, normal life has been affected and many houses have been damaged. Apart from this, roads are submerged, trees have been uprooted at many places and flood water has entered the houses. Train services have also been affected and many trains are running late.
Water has entered houses, schools and shops in low-lying areas of Kuttanad in Kerala’s coastal Alappuzha district. Potholes have formed on the roads at many places, posing a danger to drivers. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has predicted heavy rains at some places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha and Kottayam districts. A family of four narrowly escaped when the tiled roof of the house collapsed due to heavy rains in Kaikulangara in Kollam district. The IMD has issued a yellow alert in seven districts of the state, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki, Kottayam and Ernakulam. Yellow alert indicates heavy rain between 6 to 11 cm.

Another house in Kannettumukku was completely damaged due to heavy rains in the early hours, police said. However, the elderly woman living in it said she had a narrow escape as she ran towards the courtyard after hearing the sound at night. Several roads were damaged and houses were damaged in the coastal village of Pozhiyoor, where the sea was raging. Relief camps have been set up in the area and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to the continued bad weather.
Normal life disrupted
Severe waterlogging and uprooting of trees in many parts of the southern state has disrupted normal life in towns and villages. Several trains headed to the state capital are reportedly running late due to the bad weather. According to officials, the agriculture sector in Thiruvananthapuram district has suffered a loss of Rs 1.82 crore due to heavy rains in the last three days. They said agricultural produce in 66.89 hectares of land in Thiruvananthapuram has been destroyed. Four houses have been completely destroyed and 41 partially damaged due to torrential rains in the district. Many families have been shifted to relief camps in the district in the last few days.
