In Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, a lawyer was shot dead on Sunday night, causing sensation in the area. On receiving the information of the incident, the police immediately started investigation and is interrogating a suspect in custody. At present, the motive behind the murder is not clear.
Details of the event
According to the police, Mahendra Kumar Maurya (42), who was a resident of Marui Kishundaspur village and advocating in the local tehsil, was irrigating his farm. Meanwhile, some unknown assailants broke on them with guns and fired several bullets. Mahendra Kumar Maurya died on the spot after being shot. After the incident, the police team immediately reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem. This incident has created fear and concern in the entire area.
Police action and investigation
Speaking to PTI, Sultanpur Superintendent of Police Kunwar Anupam Singh said that in the initial investigation, the police immediately started taking action, understanding the seriousness of the incident. He said, “The incident took place around 11 pm. The deceased Mahendra Kumar Maurya used to advocate in the local tehsil.” He further informed that in the murder case, a person is being detained and questioned. Also, several teams have been formed to identify and arrest the other accused, which are working seriously. The Superintendent of Police assured that the matter would be resolved soon.
Bar Association statement
Akhilesh Upadhyay, Secretary, Kadipur Bar Association, has condemned this infamous murder. He said that the attack on people associated with any kind of crime and especially lawyers like lawyers will not be tolerated. Akhilesh Upadhyay demanded that the culprits should be arrested as soon as possible and take the strongest action so that the lawyers and the general public should remain confident of security.
Police engaged to find out the reasons behind the murder
The police investigating the case have not yet brought any clear reason behind the murder. However, the police are working on several potential angles, including things related to the professional life, personal enmity or any other reason. A senior police official said that security arrangements have been tightened to prevent tension and unrest in the area and the search for the suspects is going on.
