Pune: A new revelation has been made in the Pune hit and run case. The driver who took the blame to save the 17-year-old minor has exposed his family. He told the police that his family had threatened him to take the blame for the accident and had forbidden him from talking about it to anyone. The boy’s family had imprisoned him in their bungalow since that night. On May 19, a minor boy, in an inebriated condition, hit his Porsche car into a bike at a speed of 200 kmph, killing two techies.
The 42-year-old driver told the police that soon after the incident, he received a call from the minor’s grandfather. The driver said, ‘He first called me and shouted at me over the phone. He forcibly took me to his bungalow in his BMW car. There the minor’s father and grandfather snatched my mobile. I was imprisoned in the bungalow. I was pressured to take the blame for the incident.’ The driver further said that he told me, ‘If you talk to anyone about this, then remember this…’
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar told the media that the family had promised to reward the driver if he took the blame. “He was pressurised. After the accident, the driver was questioned at the police station. When the questioning was over, he wanted to go home, but he (the minor’s grandfather) forcibly took him to his house, snatched his phone and imprisoned him,” Kumar said.
The police have arrested the grandfather on charges of wrongful confinement, kidnapping and criminal intimidation. The minor’s grandfather is an accused in a case of attempt to murder in connection with the attack on a Shiv Sena councillor in 2009. He is accused of hiring a contract killer to kill the councillor, Chhota Rajan.
