Shimla. Cases of scrub typhus are usually seen during the rainy season. In this disease, people can have fever of 100, 101, 102 or even higher. Apart from this, body pain and swelling are also seen. At the place where the insect bites, a mark appears which gradually starts turning black. There is no pain in this mark, due to which people are not able to detect it. This mark can also be on the back or such places which the person cannot see. It cannot be detected also because there is no pain in this mark.
2 diseases are mostly seen during rainy season
IGMC’s HOD Medicine Dr. Balbir Singh Verma said that 2 diseases are mostly seen in Himachal during rainy season. These include leptospirosis and scrub typhus. Their symptoms are almost the same. Apart from this, not many cases of malaria are seen here. Scrub typhus is treated according to the season. Very effective antibiotics are available for this, which show their effect very soon.
How does scrub typhus occur and how to prevent it
During the rainy season, rats breed in bushes or fields, which contain chiggers. These chiggers are the cause of scrub typhus. Their bite leaves a mark on the body of the person, but it does not cause pain, due to which people are not able to know that they have scrub typhus. To avoid this, go to the fields wearing gloves and full length shoes. Apart from this, whenever you reach home from the fields or bushes, take a bath and wash your clothes thoroughly, then scrub typhus can be avoided.
Delay in getting treatment can be harmful
People who work in fields or forests are more likely to get scrub typhus. In case of scrub typhus, if the doctor is not consulted and treatment is not done soon, then problems can arise. The person may have problems like jaundice, kidney problems, bleeding, clotting, mental illness etc. The special thing about scrub typhus is that after treatment, a dose of medicine starts showing effect very soon. Therefore, it is very important to get it treated on time.
