Govind Mohan will be the next Home Secretary of the country.
New Delhi: Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Govind Mohan has been appointed Union Home Secretary in place of Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Wednesday. An official order has given this information that 1989 batch IAS officer Govind will take over the post after the current Secretary Bhalla completes his term. Govind is currently the Secretary of the Ministry of Culture. He will take over as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Home Ministry. The special thing is that Mohan’s appointment is very important from the point of view of the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mohan has studied engineering from BHU
The official order said, ‘The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Govind Mohan, IAS (Sikkim: 1989), Secretary, Ministry of Culture, as Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Home Affairs with immediate effect. The order said, “Mohan will take over as Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs in place of Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, IAS (Assam-Meghalaya: 1984) on 22.08.2024 after the completion of his tenure.’ Let us tell you that Mohan has done electrical engineering from BHU and has worked as Union Culture Secretary since October 2021. He has also worked for the Home Ministry twice before this.
The cabinet secretary was also appointed recently
Let us tell you that earlier on Saturday, the Center had approved the name of Finance Secretary T.V. Somanathan for the post of Cabinet Secretary. Somanathan’s tenure on this post will be 2 years and he will replace the current Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, whose five-year term on this post will be completed at the end of this month. An order issued by the Ministry of Personnel said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Somanathan as Cabinet Secretary and he will have a tenure of 2 years from 30 August 2024.
