New Delhi: Heat wave continues to wreak havoc in North India. People are facing severe heat. Heavy rains in Mumbai and surrounding areas have made the weather pleasant. On the other hand, heat wave continues to wreak havoc in the capital Delhi. Due to severe heat, people of Delhi are also facing shortage of water and electricity.
Heat wave will continue for now
According to the weather department’s forecast, heat wave will continue to wreak havoc in many areas of Uttar Pradesh between June 14 and 16. West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand will have to face severe heat on June 14 and 15. Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh will also experience heat wave for the next five days. North-western Rajasthan and north-western Madhya Pradesh will also experience severe heat.
Heavy rain in Mumbai
On the other hand, heavy rains in Mumbai have brought relief to the people and a drop in temperature has been recorded. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain in some parts of Assam, Meghalaya, Goa, Odisha. Light to moderate rain is expected in Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Karnataka, Northeast India, Sikkim, South-Western Madhya Pradesh, South Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir. On the other hand, an alert has been issued regarding high tide in Mumbai. At 5:46 pm, waves up to 3.62 meters high can rise in the sea.
Rainfall four percent less than normal
The Meteorological Department said in its forecast that the total rainfall across the country in the first 12 days of this monsoon was four percent less than normal and North-West India received 53 percent less rainfall. On the other hand, Southern India received 60 percent more rainfall than normal during the period from June 1 to 12. The Meteorological Department said that conditions are likely to become favorable for the advancement of the southwest monsoon around June 19.
