New Delhi. Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her first statement after stepping down from power, has demanded punishment for those involved in the killings and barbarism that took place in the country during the month of July. This information has been given in a Reuters report. The statement shared by Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wazed said, “I appeal to you to observe the National Mourning Day on 15 August with due respect and seriousness. Pray for the liberation of all souls by offering floral wreaths and prayers at Bangabandhu Bhavan.”
The former Prime Minister of Bangladesh said, “Since last July, many people have lost their lives due to vandalism, arson and violence in the name of the movement. Students, teachers, police, even internal women police, journalists, cultural workers, working people, Awami League and allied organization leaders, activists, pedestrians and employees working in various institutions who have become victims of terrorist attacks, I express my condolences and pray for the peace of their souls.”
Condemning the destruction of the museum of Bangladesh’s founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Hasina said, “Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, under whose leadership we gained self-respect as an independent nation, gained self-identity and got an independent country, has been grossly insulted. They have insulted the blood of millions of martyrs. I want justice from the countrymen.” Hasina’s 15-year rule as Bangladesh’s prime minister ended on August 5, when she resigned and left the country amid violent protests against her rule. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s daughter is currently in a safe place in India.
