The World Health Organization (WHO) has taken strict action against Zima Vajed, daughter of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Saima Vajd, posted as the regional director of South East Asia in the organization, has been sent on leave. The WHO took this action after allegations of corruption made by the interim government of Bangladesh on Cyma.

The WHO has currently refused to comment on the matter. The organization told news agency ANI, “WHO’s Regional Director, SEARO, Cyma Vajed is currently on leave.” The organization also informed that during this time Dr. Kaitharina Bohm will work as an officer in charge. The action has been taken by the Bangladesh Anti -Corruption Commission after a case of fraud, forgery and misuse of power against Simma Vajed. Dr. Vajed has taken this position in his place. Kaitharanina Bohm is expected to reach the SEARO office of the World Health Organization (WHO) in New Delhi on 15 July.
Yunus government welcomed this decision
Reacting to the action taken by WHO, Shafiqul Alam, press secretary of Bangladesh Chief Advisor Mohammad Yunus, said in a Facebook post, “We welcome the decision of the World Health Organization to send Cyma Vajd on indefinite leave amidst the ongoing investigation into serious allegations of fraud, forgery and misuse of power. We consider it an important step in the direction to send Cyme Vajd on indefinite leave.”
He added, “We firmly believe that a permanent solution is required, which removes Cyma Vajed from his post, cancel all the privileges of his and restore this prestigious role and the reliability of the United Nations System as a whole.” He also said that the people of Bangladesh are happy with this decision of transparency, honesty and justice.
The appointment was done last year
In January 2024, Cyma Vajd was selected by the World Health Organization for the post of Regional Director of South-East Asia region. According to the World Health Organization, in nomination voting, Saima Vajed was selected for a four -year term and got 8 votes in the election, while his opponent got only two votes. In this election, Nepal candidate Simma Vajed was defeated by Shambhu Prasad Acharya. The 51 -year -old Cyme is known as an autism specialist and a global pracharak in the field of mental health.
