At such a time, Saima Wajid, daughter of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said on Thursday that she is extremely saddened by the loss of lives in her country, as well as by not being able to see and hug her mother in such a difficult time. Due to anti-government protests by students in Bangladesh, Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister on Monday and after leaving the country, has taken refuge in India.
‘My heart is broken’
Sheikh Hasina’s daughter said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’, “My heart is broken by the loss of lives in the Bangladesh I love. I cannot see my mother or hug her in this difficult time. I am deeply saddened by this. I will continue to play my role as RD.” Wajid is the regional director of the World Health Organization for South-East Asia.
Political crisis continues in Bangladesh
Bangladesh is grappling with an unprecedented political crisis after Sheikh Hasina, who was in power for the last 15 years, suddenly resigned from the post of Prime Minister and left the country amid weeks of violent protests against the controversial reservation system. Bangladesh President Mohammad Shahabuddin on Tuesday dissolved the parliament and appointed Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus as the head of the interim government. An interim government led by Nobel laureate Mohammad Yunus will be sworn in in Bangladesh. (Language)
