Paatan. Situated at the confluence of Kharun River and Sonpur Nala, just six km away from Patan, the 36-year-old Shiva temple is also a confluence of social harmony. This place has now become famous for better picnic spots and religious rituals.
This 74 feet high temple has been constructed by 12 Pali Nishad Samaj for 52 years by taking one rupee donation from every house and doing Shramdaan. It has been decided to include Shiv Mandir Tolaghat in the map of Chhattisgarh Tourism Board and make Lakshan Jhoola here.
Temple made of body-mind-wealth: In the year 1930, the first meeting of Nishad Samaj was held in Thakurain Tola. In which it was decided that for the construction of the temple, the people of Nishad community settled in 22 villages would donate one rupee annually from each house and each village would give a systematic shramdaan.
After this decision, the foundation stone was laid in the year 1931-32 to build a temple at Sangam at Tolaghat. The first president of the society, late Budhram Nishad (Parsoda), the General Secretary, Late. Mahrooram Nishad (Khatti), treasurer was Pachkaur Nishad (Thakurain Tola). The temple construction work continued for 52 consecutive years and was completed in February 1984.
There is also a gathering of migratory birds in Tolaghat
The Shiva temple built at the confluence of Kharun river and Sonepur Nala reminds people of Kuleshwar temple standing firmly at the confluence of Mahanadi-Peri and Sondhur river at Barabas Rajim. People have started considering Tolaghat as the second Rajim. During the rainy season, when the flood water starts submerging the platform of the temple.
Then there is a symbol as if a chariot is running on water. People get hypnotized on seeing this scene. A fair is organized here every year on the occasion of Mahashivratri. The fair is arranged by the Shiv Mandir Committee. Hundreds of migratory birds also visit Tolaghat every year. The villagers themselves guard these guests.
Due to all this, people come here in large numbers for picnics. There are paved roads to reach Tolaghat from places like Raipur, Durg, Abhanpur etc. Most of the people of the area have started immersing the ashes of their loved ones in Tolaghat Sangam without going to Rajim.

Gods and Goddesses sitting on the river bank
After the completion of the Shiva temple at Sangam in the year 1984, more than 15 temples of gods and goddesses have been built on the banks of Kharun river by various devotees. Ram Mandir by Kurmi Samaj, Krishna Mandir by Yadav Samaj, Ekadash Mandir by Gopal Varma, Gurdwara by Punjab Sanatan Sabha, Karmamata Mandir and Dharamshala by Sahu Samaj.
Apart from this, a Shiva temple has been built by Shridhar Nishad (Sour), Dashrath Sahu, Phool Singh Sahu, Sunderlal Sahu, Santram Sinha and Hridayram. Apart from this Kheduram Nishad Rameshwar, Leelaram Nishad Kali and Bhairav, Budhadev temple has been constructed by Gond tribal society. A huge statue of Nandiraj has also been installed just below the pagoda.
Construction continued even in the rain
It was proposed to establish a statue of Guha Nishadraj at the feet of Lord Rama in the Nishad Samaj temple. In the year 1980-81, while the temple construction work was going on, there was a sudden flood in Kharun river. When the flood water receded, the villagers saw that there were marks of a bull climbing on the steps of the temple.
People believed that Nandi, the vehicle of Lord Shiva, had come here and after taking rest in the platform, he had an indwelling meditation. Due to this sentiment, Shivling was established unanimously in the temple. Later, the mural of Lord Rama- Guha Nishadraj was carved on the wall of the temple.
