New Delhi. 21-year-old Saurav Gupta, a passenger in the bus that was attacked by terrorists in Jammu, had shouted to alert other passengers, but then a bullet hit him in the back of the neck. Saurav was among the nine pilgrims killed in the terrorist attack on the bus in Reasi, Jammu on Sunday.
Saurav’s father Kuldeep Gupta and other family members brought the body to Delhi in an ambulance. The last rites were performed on Tuesday near their house in Mandoli area of north-east Delhi. Saurav had gone to the Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu with his wife Shivani Gupta to pray for a child. The couple, married for two years, were to return home later that day.
“Shivani saw her husband die before her eyes. As soon as the firing started, he shouted but was shot. The bullet hit the back of his neck as he was sitting near the window,” he said.
Manoj Gupta said that Shivani survived the attack safely, but her leg and face were fractured when the bus fell into the ditch. Shivani is currently undergoing treatment at a nursing home near the couple’s house. Saurav, who lost his mother at the age of three, is survived by his wife, father and a younger brother.
