RCB registered its first win of the season
The team captained by Mandhana defeated UP on the last ball.
New Delhi. The first two matches of the Women’s Premier League 2024 were very exciting. In both the matches the result came on the last ball. Royal Challengers Bangalore team, captained by Smriti Mandhana, has started the season with a win. RCB defeated UP Warriors by 2 runs on the last ball in the second match of WPL 2024 played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. Earlier in the inaugural match also the result was decided on the last ball. In that match, Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals on the last ball. The heroine of RCB’s victory was leg spinner Shobhana Asha who created history by taking 5 wickets. Shobhana has become the first Indian to take 5 wickets in the history of the league.
UP Warriors, which came to chase the target of 158 runs set by Royal Challengers Bangalore, could only score 155 runs for 7 wickets. RCB’s leg spinner Shobhana Asha turned the match in its favor by taking 3 wickets in one over. For UP, Grace Harris played the highest innings of 38 runs while Shweta Sehrawat returned to the pavilion after scoring 31 runs. Talia McGrath contributed 22 runs.

There was excitement in the match when UP Warriors needed 9 runs from 4 balls to win while 8 runs were to be scored for the Super Over. However, Deepti Sharma created excitement in the match by hitting a four on the fifth ball of the last over. UP needed 5 runs on the last ball but Deepti could score only 2 runs on this ball of Mollix and RCB won the match by 2 runs.
Earlier, with timely half-centuries played by wicketkeeper batsman Richa Ghosh (62 runs) and Sabbineni Meghna (53 runs), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) women’s team scored 157 runs for 6 wickets. Meghna faced 44 balls and hit seven fours and one six during her innings, while Richa hit 12 fours in her 37-ball innings. Both of them then made a partnership of 71 runs in 50 balls for the fourth wicket when the team lost three wickets for 54 runs in 7.5 overs after being invited to bat.
