The final match of the 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played on 26 May at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. Shreyas Iyer will be seen captaining the KKR team in this match. Before the start of this IPL season, Iyer was struggling with his back injury, due to which there was a doubt about his playing. However, Iyer was seen playing the captaincy for KKR after getting fit on time. Shreyas Iyer will also become the first captain in the history of IPL who will play the captaincy in the final match for 2 different teams. At the same time, Iyer also said a big thing about his back injury in the press conference held before the title match.
Nobody believed what I said
In response to a question about his back injury during the IPL 2024 final match, Shreyas Iyer said that after the end of the ODI World Cup, I was struggling a lot with this problem in the long format. When I spoke about this problem, no one believed me at that time, but at that time my competition was with myself as well. When the IPL was getting closer, my focus was also on giving my best performance in it and whatever strategy we had made for this season, we were able to implement it properly on the field and now our focus is completely on playing the final match.
BCCI had excluded him from the central contract
For not playing the Ranji Trophy match, Shreyas Iyer was also dropped from the central contract list by the BCCI at that time, after which there was a lot of discussion about his back injury. Iyer kept himself away from the quarter-final match, but after that he played in the final match for the Mumbai team and played against Vidarbha and he also scored 95 runs in the second innings. On the other hand, if we look at Iyer’s performance with the bat in the 17th season of IPL, he has scored 345 runs in 13 matches at an average of 38.33.
