new Delhi . Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma signed a Memorandum of Understanding to resolve the inter-state border issues in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah.
On this occasion, Home Minister Amit Shah said that today is a historic day for a dispute-free Northeast. Great efforts have been made.
Shah said that I am happy that today Assam and Meghalaya have reached an agreement on 6 out of 12 disputes. In terms of the length of the border, about 70% of the limit is today dispute free. I am sure that we will solve the remaining 6 places also in the near future.
At the same time, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that after this MoU, we will start the work of the second phase and will try our best to solve the remaining 6 disputed places in the next 6-7 months. Whereas Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that we will try to resolve the remaining places where there is a dispute by taking it forward.
