In this advisory issued by the Principal and Chief Superintendent of Silchar Medical College, female doctors, students and all health workers were asked to avoid going to isolated, poorly lit and less populated areas in the campus. Along with this, female doctors, students and employees were advised that as much as possible they should avoid situations where they are alone. Maintain distance from any unknown person who looks suspicious. You should have some means of contact to deal with any kind of emergency. Along with this, do not go out of the hostel or lodging room at night. If very important, then inform the concerned authority in advance and then only go somewhere.
Students strongly opposed this type of advisory issued by the medical college. In this regard, the students say that instead of issuing this advisory, the college administration should strengthen the security arrangements in the campus. Due to the protest of the students, the college administration has withdrawn the advisory. However, the college administration says that keeping in view the safety of the female members, this advisory was issued in the interest of the doctors, students and employees of the medical college.
