RG Kar Hospital murder case: Why is Mamta Banerjee coming out on the streets today? The government is hers, then what is her demand?
Earlier on Friday, the Calcutta High Court took cognizance of the email in the RG Kar Hospital vandalism case and said that the mob violence in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital is a complete failure of the government machinery in West Bengal. The court directed the police and hospital administration to file an affidavit on the incident. The bench headed by Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam said that it is difficult to believe that the police was not aware of the gathering of 7,000 people in the hospital. In fact, Mamata government’s lawyer had told the court that such a large crowd had gathered in the hospital in the early hours of Thursday.
The High Court directed the police and the hospital administrator to file two separate affidavits. In this, all the facts and the truth of all the related cases will have to be told on the next hearing date of August 21. The bench, also comprising Justice Hiranmay Bhattacharya, said that the police should keep on record the entire sequence of events, which led to the vandalism in the hospital. The court also directed the CBI investigation team to file an interim report on the progress of its investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a female doctor in the seminar hall of the hospital on August 9. After this incident, junior doctors in government hospitals of the state had stopped working.
