Cooch Behar. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday accused the BJP of not following the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) implemented for the Lok Sabha elections, saying that poisonous snakes can be trusted, but not the BJP. Addressing a rally in Cooch Behar, Banerjee alleged that the central investigative agencies, Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) were working at the behest of the BJP. He urged the Election Commission to look into this and ensure equal opportunities for all.
The Chief Minister told the people present in the meeting that ‘BJP is asking you to register your names again for the housing scheme. Why are names being re-registered? They want to do this so that they can remove the names. You can trust a poisonous snake, you can even pet it, but you can never trust the BJP… BJP is ruining the country. He said that his party Trinamool Congress ‘will not bow down to the threats of central agencies.’
Mamata Banerjee urged women in Cooch Behar to lodge a police complaint if there are ‘incidents of atrocities on local people by BSF’ ahead of the elections on April 19. Addressing another election rally in Malbazar, Trinamool Congress chief Banerjee alleged that ‘central investigating agencies like NIA, Income Tax Department and central forces like BSF and CISF are working for the BJP. We would humbly request the Election Commission to ensure level playing field for all, as the central agencies are working for the BJP. I would appeal to the people to protect the EVMs after the voting till the results are declared because the BJP will try to tamper with the mandate.

Referring to the death of four civilians in the firing by central forces in Sitalkuchi in Cooch Behar district during the assembly elections in the year 2021, Banerjee alleged that the firing was done over a trivial matter. He also accused the BJP of trying to use Indian Army hospitals for its own selfish gains. Banerjee said that BJP only follows the principle of ‘one nation, one party’.
