Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand was born on 2 September 1924 in Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh. His father’s name was Shri Dhanpati Upadhyay and mother’s name was Smt. Girija Devi. Swami Swaroopanand was named Paudhiram Upadhyay by his parents in his childhood. At the age of 9, he left his family and started pilgrimages to start his ascetic life. In this episode, he reached Kashi, where he had studied the Vedas, Puranas and scriptures by staying in the company of Shri Swami Karpatri Maharaj.
