We Indians love vehicles as a part of our family, but there are some things that only mechanic can tell about. We are talking about engine oil. You should be aware that if you have low engine oil in the vehicle, the internal parts of your engine can be damaged. At the same time, if you do not apply oil in the engine properly, your car can also get damaged. That is why it is important that you check your engine oil from time to time. For this, you keep checking it every two weeks. Let us tell you how you can keep your engine in good shape.
Make sure your engine is cold
You should always keep your engine oil cool. If your engine is hot let it cool down, and wait before moving on to the next steps. Check the car manual to check this as some car manufacturers do not recommend checking your engine oil on a cold engine.
park your car on a flat
Park your car where the ground is level. Parking your vehicle on a slanted or inclined deck will result in incorrect engine oil levels. Once you’re on plain ground pop the hood off for further inspection. At the same time, before starting to check your engine oil, make sure that you have turned off your car.
Check the Yellow Dipstick in Your Engine
Once you open the bonnet, you will see a yellow dipstick which will be in the middle of the engine. You should take it out and wipe with a clean cloth. When you’re done cleaning it, put it back in and then take it out after a few seconds. You will notice the oil mark and sense the oil level. The oil mark should be between the minimum and maximum marking. Needless to say here, that if the oil is low, top it up as soon as possible. Remember to use the same engine oil and do not change the oil grade.
oil filler cap
You can use the oil filler cap, which you’ll find near the dipstick. Remember this and try not to spill oil on any other part of the engine. Give it a few seconds before checking the oil level again. Check your oil every two weeks and replace it if your oil is dirty. If it is low, keep it above the minimum level. A normal level doesn’t require you to do anything.
