Israel is enraged over Ireland, Norway and Spain granting statehood to Palestine. Israel responded by recalling its ambassadors from Ireland and Norway. Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said on Wednesday the move, coordinated with Spain and Norway, was “a historic and important day for Ireland and Palestine.” He said the move was aimed at helping resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through a two-state solution.
‘…there will be no peace in West Asia’
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gar Sturm said on Wednesday that his country is formally recognizing Palestine as a state. He said, “If recognition is not given, peace cannot be established in West Asia.”
European Union countries had given indications
Several EU countries have signaled in the past few weeks that they plan to recognize Palestine, arguing that a two-state solution is necessary for peace in the region. Norway has been a staunch supporter of the two-state solution between Israel and Palestine. It is not a member of the European Union but its stance on this issue is similar to that of other EU members. “Terror has been spread by Hamas and terrorist groups who are not supporters of the two-state solution and the Israeli government,” he said.
