New Delhi. Now a few days are left for the 2024 season of IPL. IPL 2024 will have a colorful start on 22nd March. The opening match of the tournament will be played between defending champions Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore (CSK Vs RCB). During this cricket festival, which started in the year 2008, fans have got a treat of exciting cricket. This is the reason why the popularity of IPL is increasing with each passing season.
During the Indian Premier League, fans have not only experienced the thrill of many close matches, the captivating performances of many players have also won their hearts. So far 87 centuries have been scored in the tournament while 22 hat-tricks have been recorded. Virat Kohli has the maximum number of 7 hundreds in the name of IPL while the maximum number of three hat-tricks is in the name of leg spinner Amit Mishra. Talking about the special occasions of IPL, there have been two occasions when two batsmen of one team have scored centuries in an innings. Apart from this, in the 2017 season, two bowlers have achieved the feat of scoring a hat-trick in a single day.
IPL 2024: The credibility of these speed merchants is at stake, will they live up to the trust or will they fail?
On two occasions, two batsmen have scored centuries in one innings.
The opportunity for two batsmen to score centuries in an innings came for the first time in IPL 2016 when on May 14, RCB’s AB de Villiers (129*) and Virat Kohli (109) scored centuries against Gujarat Lions. On the strength of the contribution of both the batsmen, RCB team was successful in scoring 248 runs for 3 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Gujarat Lions were all out for 104 in 18.4 overs and lost the match by a huge margin of 144 runs.
The feat of two batsmen scoring centuries in one innings of IPL was repeated again in IPL 2019 when Sunrisers Hyderabad’s David Warner (100*) and Jonny Bairstow (114) scored centuries against RCB. In the match, Sunrisers made a big score of 231 runs by losing two wickets in 20 overs and then bowled out RCB for 113 runs. SRH team won the match by 118 runs.
The player who was trolled a lot in IPL 2023, Kohli and Rohit also lost their shine in front of him.
Two hat-tricks were scored on the same day in IPL 2017
Talking about two hat-tricks being scored on the same day in IPL, this happened on 14th April in the 2017 season. Samuel Badree and Andrew Tye had recorded this hat-trick. In the match against Mumbai Indians, RCB’s Samuel Badree took a total of four wickets including a hat-trick. ‘Player of the Match’ Badri had hunted MI’s Parthiv Patel, Mitchell McClenaghan and Rohit Sharma with consecutive balls. This Caribbean bowler of Indian origin took 4 wickets for just 9 runs in his four over spell. However, despite this hat-trick of Badri, RCB had to face defeat by 4 wickets. Batting first in the match, RCB team could score only 142 runs after losing five wickets in 20 overs. In reply, despite the shock given by Badri, MI achieved the target by losing six wickets.
Interesting coincidence related to the first century of Sachin and Virat in IPL, fans will be surprised.
Ankit Sharma, Manoj Tiwari and Shardul became victims of Ty
On April 14 itself, a hat-trick was scored in the next match between Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions (RPS Vs GL). This hat-trick was scored by Gujarat Lions fast bowler Andrew Tye. Batting first in the match, RPS team scored 171 runs losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. Ty, who was the best player of the match, took five wickets for 17 runs in a spell of four overs. He completed the hat-trick by dismissing Ankit Sharma, Manoj Tiwari and Shardul Thakur on his first three balls of the 20th over of the innings. In reply, Gujarat Lions achieved the target by losing three wickets and won the match by seven wickets.
The ‘bad boys’ of cricket; Some got into trouble with the umpire, some with the police and some with their partner.
Same pattern in both hat-tricks – catch, catch and then bowled.
It would be considered a coincidence that the sequence of both the hat-tricks scored on 14 April 2017 was the same. Both Badri and Tye took the first two wickets as caught out and the last wicket as bowled. In the RCB Vs MI match, after getting Parthiv Patel caught by Gayle, Badri got McClenaghan caught by Mandeep Singh on the next ball and then bowled Rohit Sharma. Similarly, in the RPS Vs GL match, Andrew Tye got Ankit Sharma caught by McCullum, on the next ball he got Manoj Tiwari caught by Ishan Kishan while Shardul was bowled on the third ball of the over.
