Special Olympics Bharat team received a rousing welcome

The Indian football team of Special Olympics performed brilliantly in the Gothia Cup and won the Gothia Cup title. The team remained undefeated in the tournament and did not lose a single match. Special Olympics India organized a welcome ceremony for a team of 10 athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Delhi this morning. On this occasion, the team was given a warm welcome by Minister of State for Sports Raksha Khadse, President of Special Olympics India and Chief of Asia Pacific Advisory Council Dr. Mallika Nadda, Treasurer of SO India Dr. Upasana Arora and other distinguished guests.

The team of Special Olympics India did not lose a single match

The team of Special Olympics Bharat displayed excellent game throughout the tournament. In the final, SO Bharat faced SO Denmark. The final ended with a score of 4:3 in favour of India. SO Bharat played 4 league matches before entering the final, scoring a total of 22 goals. Muhammad Shaheer scored the most goals with 7. Shaheer, who hails from Kerala, is an athlete with intellectual disability. He is the son of a fisherman. He is passionate about football and other sports like cycling and swimming.

Special Olympics Indian Team

A team of 10 athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities accompanied by three coaches from 6 states (Delhi, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal) made their debut in the Gothia Cup tournament in the ‘Gothia Special Olympics’ category.

Special Olympics Bharat chief Mallika Nadda said this

Extending a warm welcome to the football team, Dr. Mallika Nadda said that today is an important day for us as it is the global day of inclusion. I am very happy to mark this day with the victory of SO Bharat Champions in the Gothia Cup tournament. I am extremely grateful to Raksha Khadse ji for welcoming and motivating our athletes. The stellar performance of the athletes is a result of practice and motivation. I am grateful to Team SKF India for their enthusiastic support in making this unprecedented opportunity for our athletes to play and contributing to the team building, training and rewarding result. The support of the Embassy of Sweden in India made this experience even more heartwarming and inspiring.
