Chasing a target of 166 runs, Sri Lanka’s Harshitha Samarawickrama and captain Chamari Athapaththu played brilliant half-century innings. Samarawickrama remained unbeaten on 69 off 51 balls, while Athapaththu contributed 61 runs off 43 balls. Sri Lanka achieved the target in 18.4 overs for the loss of eight wickets. This win is an important milestone for Sri Lanka, as it is their first Asia Cup title. In the history of the tournament, India has been the most successful team, winning the title seven times. Bangladesh has also captured the trophy once.

In the final, India batted first and posted a total of 165 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Sri Lanka easily achieved the target by scoring 166/2 in 18.4 overs. Earlier, India have dominated the Women’s Asia Cup, reaching the final in all eight editions of the tournament and winning seven of them. The 2024 final was the fifth occasion when India and Sri Lanka faced each other in the championship match. Earlier, India had emerged victorious in all these encounters, including the 2022 final, where they won by eight wickets.

Both teams performed exceptionally well in the league stage and booked their place in the final with undefeated records. India won all their three league matches, defeating Pakistan by seven wickets, UAE by 78 runs and Nepal by 82 runs. In the semi-finals, India registered a stunning ten-wicket win over Bangladesh. On the other hand, Sri Lanka also won all their league matches, defeating Bangladesh by seven wickets, Malaysia by 144 runs and Thailand by ten wickets.
