New Delhi. In cricket, often the news which is bad for one player or team, gives relief to others. The news of Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga being suspended is also similar. This Sri Lankan spinner is returning from retirement, so that his team can perform well against Bangladesh in Test cricket. But it is said that hail falls as soon as the head is shaved. The very next day the Sri Lanka Cricket Board included Wanindu Hasaranga in the Test team, he was suspended for 2 matches on charges of misbehavior with the umpire.
Wanindu Hasaranga is currently on Bangladesh tour with Sri Lanka cricket team. Bangladesh team defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 in the ODI series. Sri Lanka announced the Test team after this defeat. Wanindu Hasaranga was also included in this team, who had recently announced his retirement from Test cricket. Hasaranga’s selection in the Sri Lankan Test team was a blow for Sunrisers Hyderabad as it could have ruled them out of the first 3-4 matches of the IPL.

But a decision of the ICC has put Wanindu Hasaranga’s dreams of returning to Test cricket aside for the time being. He was deducted half his match fee and given three demerit points for misbehaving with the umpire in the third ODI against Bangladesh. In this way, Hasaranga got 8 demerit points within a year. According to ICC rules, if a player gets 8 demerit points within a year, then he is automatically suspended for 2 Tests or 4 ODIs or 4 T20 International matches.
Wanindu Hasaranga has the option to appeal against the sentence. If ICC rejects Hasaranga’s appeal, it will mean that he will not be able to play the Test series. Another aspect of this is that if Hasaranga does not play in the Sri Lanka-Bangladesh series, then he can join his team Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL (Indian Premier League). That means Sri Lanka’s loss can be a news of relief for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s first match in the Indian Premier League is against Kolkata Knight Riders on 23 March.
