9 fielders on the boundary
In the last session of the fourth day, Australia understood that it could no longer win the match. In such a situation, the fielding by Australian captain Steve Smith was clear that he was trying to prolong the Indian innings. Due to which his team did not have to bat on the fourth day.
In Test cricket, when the leading batsman is at the crease with the lower order, the opposition captain makes fielding decisions at the start of the over. At the end of the over, he calls the fielders close, so that the batsman does not take a single and the tailender is on strike in the next over. So that his wicket can be taken and the innings ends. But when Mohammed Shami came to the crease after the dismissal of Umesh Yadav, the Australian team was easily giving him a chance to take a single at the end of the over. He kept all 9 fielders on the boundary line.
Virat played for the team
In such a situation, it was almost impossible to hit a four. Virat could have scored his double century by scoring one run but he thought of the team. And tried to hit a six to score quick runs and got out. The photo of field placing is also going viral on social media.
Not possible in ODI or T20
The captain cannot field like this in ODIs and T20s. In ODIs, only two fielders can be outside the 30 yard circle for the first 10 overs. Between 11th to 40th over, 4 fielders while in the last 10 overs, 5 fielders can be on the boundary line. Whereas in T20, the captain can put two fielders in the first 6 overs and then 5 fielders on the boundary.
