Khandwa (Representative of New Zealand). Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists protested in the city on Saturday in connection with the Lavanya suicide case. Students from SN College took to the streets carrying banners of “Fight for Lavanya”. A rally was taken out to Kewalram square, shouting slogans against the arrest of National General Secretary of ABVP, Nidhi Tripathi. Angry workers burnt effigies of Tamil Nadu government at Kewalram square.
ABVP activists are outraged over the suicide of Lavanya, a Class XII student studying in a missionary-run school in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district. Regarding this, the student organization took out a protest march from SN College at around 11 am. The students were marching ahead with the banner of “Fight for Lavanya”. While other students were carrying ABVP flags in their hands. Student leaders addressed the workers at Kewalram crossroads. District coordinator Shubham Patel told that the attempt to convert Lavanya When she refused, she was harassed mentally and physically by the school. Lavanya took her own life. ABVP’s department coordinator Shubham Sawale said that relatives and ABVP activists raised concerns about Lavanya’s death. Requesting justice to the Tamil Nadu government, it was not heard. False cases were registered against ABVP’s National General Secretary Nidhi Tripathi and other activists for peaceful demonstration. An effigy of Tamil Nadu government has been burnt while protesting against all these. ABVP’s Prant Kala Manch cum chief Shraddha Bhamore, city minister Harsh Verma, Shubham Nikum, Shubham Wasle, Pragya Kanungo, Deepshikha Vival, Sakshi Upadhyay, Mokshita Choure and other activists were present in the performance.
