Thane: A very shameful incident has come to light in Navi Mumbai area of Maharashtra. A rape case has been registered against a 32-year-old police sub-inspector. It is alleged that this police sub-inspector was not only continuously raping a married female constable but was also forcing her to marry him, leave her husband and extort money from him.
According to police officials, this sub-inspector committed these misdeeds in Sanpada area between the year 2020 and July 2022. The officer said that the accused befriended the 26-year-old victim, both of whom were associated with the Mumbai Police, and allegedly raped her several times in a flat in Sanpada after promising to marry her.
Police said that from time to time he kept extorting money from the victim woman on one pretext or the other. So far he has taken Rs 19 lakh from the woman, out of which he has returned only Rs 14.61 lakh. An officer of Sanpada police station said that the accused also followed the woman and asked her to leave her husband, if she did not do so, he threatened to kill her.
According to information provided by the police, a complaint was initially lodged at the Pant Nagar police station in Mumbai, based on which a ‘zero FIR’ was registered against the accused under sections 376 (rape), 376 (2) (n) (repeated rape), 354 (a) (sexual harassment), 354 (d) (stalking), 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code. He said it was transferred to the Sanpada police for further investigation where a case was registered on Saturday.

The first zero FIR was registered against this policeman. A zero FIR can actually be registered in any police station, even if the place of incident or jurisdiction is another police station, and later it can be transferred to the appropriate police station.
