During the hearing on the petition filed to declare Ram Sethu as a national heritage, the Central Government had told the Supreme Court on January 19 that it was looking into the matter. A bench headed by Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud had told the petitioner Subramanian Swamy that if he wanted, he could make a representation in the matter before the government. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta had said that the Central Government’s process is going on in the matter.

On this, the bench told the petitioner that he can give representation if he wants. The court had asked the Center to take a decision and had given liberty to Swamy to approach the court again if he was dissatisfied with the government’s decision. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has filed an application seeking a direction to the central government to declare Ram Sethu as a national monument.
