Reacting to today’s order of the apex court, WFI executive member and Andhra Pradesh Wrestling Federation president R.K. Of. Purushottam told ‘PTI-Bhasha’ that the election process should be started at the earliest. “The (top) court said that the election process should be started immediately. I hope that the full order will be received soon.
Purushottam said, ‘We had decided last week to approach the Supreme Court for the elections, as there was unnecessary delay in the elections. Assam Wrestling Federation is not active since last 10 years. It’s almost closed. So we have challenged the order of the High Court. Earlier two elections were held, but the Assam Wrestling Federation did not participate both the times.
The High Court on Monday fixed July 28 as the next date of hearing on the petition filed by the Assam Wrestling Association. The WFI elections were to be held on July 11, but were put on hold by the Gauhati High Court following a petition by the Assam Wrestling Association, seeking the right to participate in the election process. The state association claimed that it was entitled to become a member of the WFI with voting rights, but on 15 November 2014, the national federation refused to recognize it, despite a recommendation from the executive committee.
