New Delhi. The Supreme Court took suo motu cognizance of the case of the death of three students in an accident at a UPSC coaching centre in Old Rajendra Nagar, Delhi and issued a notice to the Arvind Kejriwal government of Delhi and the Central government and ordered them to set safety standards. The Supreme Court made a harsh comment saying that coaching centres have become death chambers and the lives of students are being played with there. Along with this, the apex court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the coaching federation.
During the hearing of the case, the bench headed by Justice Suryakant said that if coaching centers cannot take responsibility for the safety of students, then it would be better if they run online classes. The apex court said that the incident in Old Rajender Nagar is an eye-opener and till any coaching institute does not meet the safety standards, it should not be allowed to operate. The bench of the apex court asked the Delhi government or the central government that what safety norms have been set so far for the safety of students in coaching institutes and how are they being followed?
On the other hand, after this accident, the Delhi High Court had ordered to close those coaching centers which do not have fire NOC. This order was challenged in the Supreme Court by the Coaching Federation of India. On this petition, the Supreme Court today imposed a fine of one lakh rupees on the President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Federation. Let us tell you that on July 27, due to heavy rains in Delhi, the library in the basement of Rao IAS Coaching of UPSC located in Old Rajendra Nagar suddenly got flooded, in which two girl students and one boy student died by drowning.
