New Delhi. On 11 July 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the giant national emblem Ashoka Stambh in the new building of Parliament. The 20 feet high bronze national emblem was unveiled by PM Modi on the roof of the new Parliament building after offering prayers and reciting Vedic chants. During this, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla were also present with him. At the same time, there was a lot of politics in the country after the inauguration of the giant Ashoka Pillar, the new building of Parliament, done by the Prime Minister. Many opposition parties including Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, AIMIM also raised questions about the national symbol Ashoka Pillar. Opposition parties said that the Ashoka Pillar has been tampered with and the lion has been shown as a man-eater. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has given a setback to those who filed a petition against the Ashoka Pillar on the new Parliament building.
The Supreme Court says the national emblem on top of the new Parliament building “looks great”. The court has dismissed the plea of two lawyers, in which the petitioner had alleged that the design of the national emblem has been tampered with and the dreaded lion has been shown. To which a bench headed by Justice MR Shah said that, this is your point, so we dismiss the petition.
