Special Intensive Revision – SIR process is now under legal circle in Bihar. During the ongoing hearing on the issue in the Supreme Court, on Tuesday, the apex court clarified that it was monitoring the process and will also intervene if needed.
Supreme Court’s strict comment
During the hearing on Tuesday, the Supreme Court said, “We are monitoring the entire process. If it was found that a large number of voters’ names have been deliberately removed or without any reason, we would make necessary intervention in the case.”
The court’s remarks have come amid fears in which opposition parties and social organizations have alleged that the government is making a mess in the voter list and the names of millions are being deliberately removed.
Next hearing on 12 and 13 August
The Supreme Court has fixed the next hearing of the case on August 12 and 13. The court has asked the petitioners to present documents and evidence related to the petitioners, so that it can be ascertained how many names have been really removed and whether the process is being done according to the rules.
What is the matter?
Before the upcoming assembly elections in Bihar, the Election Commission has started the process of special intensive revision of voter list in the state. This process is done in every constituency to include the names of citizens of 18 years and above and to remove the names of dead, transferred or unqualified voters.
However, this time the opposition parties have alleged that this revision is inspired by political intention and the names of voters are being removed on a large scale for the benefit of the ruling party.

On this entire controversy, the Election Commission has said that it is doing the entire process in a transparent and according to the prescribed rules. At the same time, citizens have also been given the option that they can check their names online or through blo and if any mistake is found, it can be improved.
