New Delhi. The Supreme Court of the country has got two judges today. Andhra Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and senior advocate KV Vishwanathan were sworn in as Supreme Court judges today. Let us tell you that on May 16, the Supreme Court collegium had recommended the names of both of them for their promotion, after which the final approval has been given by the central government regarding the names of both of them within three days. The maximum number of judges in the Supreme Court is 34, currently there are 32 judges in the Supreme Court. But with the swearing in of these two, the Supreme Court came into its full capacity.
For information, let us tell you that Dinesh Maheshwari, who was a Supreme Court judge, and MR Shah retired on May 12 and 15 respectively. After which the number of judges in the Supreme Court had increased to 32. The structure of the Supreme Court currently consists of 33 judges and one chief senior judge. It is worth noting that the original cadre of Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, who became a Supreme Court judge, is the Chhattisgarh High Court. He was made the Chief Justice of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh on 13 October 2021. While recommending his name, the Collegium said that there is no representative for the Chhattisgarh High Court in the Supreme Court. Due to which the final seal could be put on this recommendation. Prashant Kumar Mishra, who has been a Supreme Court Judge for more than 12 years, has a deep understanding of issues related to law and justice.
