New Delhi. Kerala’s only BJP MP and Union Minister K. Suresh Gopi is once again in the news for his statement. Suresh Gopi, while referring to Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during a program, called her the Mother of India. Suresh Gopi also called the late Congress leader Karunakaran and Marxist leader E.K. Nayanar as his political gurus. However, he urged not to draw any political meaning from this statement.
Gopi, who came to pay tribute to Karunakaran at his memorial Murali Mandir in Punkunnam, said that he considered Indira Gandhi as ‘Mother of India’, so Karunakaran was like ‘father of Congress party in the state’ for him. He said that calling Karunakaran the ‘father figure’ of Congress in Kerala is not a disrespect to the founders or co-founders of the grand old party in the southern state. Let us tell you that Suresh Gopi, MP from Thrissur Lok Sabha seat, defeated Karunakaran’s son and Congress leader K. Muraleedharan in the election.
It is worth noting that the very next day after taking oath as a minister in the Modi cabinet, Suresh Gopi had said that I did not want to become a minister of state and I had already told the party. I think the party will soon relieve me from the post. I want to work as an MP. Giving the reason for leaving the ministerial post, he had said that I have signed many films and I have to do those films. However, later when a lot of discussion started on this statement, Suresh Gopi took a U-turn. After this, Suresh Gopi clarified that I do not want to resign from the post of minister. Some media platforms are spreading false news that I am going to resign from the Council of Ministers of the Modi government. This is absolutely wrong.
