How strokes differ between men and women: You must have heard two words the most in heart disease. One is heart attack and the other is stroke. When the heart is not able to pump properly, then a heart attack occurs and when the blood or oxygen is not able to reach the brain properly due to the pumping of the heart, then a stroke occurs. That is, when the supply of oxygen to the brain stops or gets interrupted, then a stroke occurs. Today both these diseases are very common for the whole world. Because the biggest reason for stroke is high blood pressure and about 1.2 billion people have high blood pressure. But you will be surprised to know that stroke has different symptoms in men and women. Therefore, it is important to understand this.
Why is there a risk of stroke?
Dr. Tracy Madson, Associate Professor at Brown University, says that some symptoms of stroke are similar in men and women, but you should know that women have higher chances of high blood pressure. The biggest cause of stroke is high blood pressure. Apart from this, women also have pregnancy related complications due to which different symptoms of stroke can also be seen. If there are more complications in pregnancy, then the risk of stroke in women will also be higher. Dr. Madson said that usually when anyone gets a stroke, mainly the face starts drooping, there is severe weakness in the shoulders and hands and there is difficulty in speaking. But when women get a stroke, apart from these symptoms, restlessness starts, nausea starts, confusion increases and unconsciousness occurs.
What to do to avoid a stroke
According to the Journal of Stroke, women have more migraine problems due to which there is a greater risk of blood clots. This also increases the risk of stroke. According to the American Heart Association, the risk of death due to stroke is the same in men and women, but the death rate is higher in black people. On the other hand, the risk of death due to stroke is much higher in black women. Studies have found that once women have a stroke, their quality of life decreases a lot. Therefore, women should always keep their blood pressure under control. If the BP is high, then regular medication should be taken. To avoid stroke, women should control their weight and remain physically active. Along with this, one should take a healthy diet and also get adequate sleep. Green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits and whole grains should be consumed in the diet. Apart from this, alcohol and cigarettes should not be consumed.
