New Delhi. The T20 World Cup 2024 being held in West Indies and America is proving to be a ‘drought’ of runs for teams and batsmen. Due to the presence of many ‘novice’ teams in the tournament, it was expected that many scores of 250+ could be seen this time but so far this has not happened. In the 24 matches so far, only one team – Australia has crossed the 200 run mark. Not only this, there have been very few opportunities to score more than 50 runs in the tournament.
Batsmen are struggling to score runs on uneven bounce wickets. Due to slow outfield on many grounds, the number of boundaries has also decreased. The dominance of the bowling department can be gauged from the fact that no bowler has so far ‘conceded’ 50 or more runs in an innings. Amidst the ‘drought’ of runs, a batsman scoring a century in this T20 World Cup will be no less than a ‘miracle’. Let us tell you, 11 centuries have been scored in the 8 T20 World Cups so far. Two centuries were scored in the 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2022 World Cups. 2009 is the only World Cup in which no batsman could score a century.

3-3 fifties from USA, Canada and Afghanistan
So far 19 half-centuries have been scored in T20 World Cup 2024 (figures till Australia-Namibia match). Batsmen of new teams dominate this list while surprisingly the names of veterans like Virat Kohli, Babar Azam, Kane Williamson and Jos Buttler are missing. Kohli has scored just 5 runs in two matches so far. In the upcoming matches of Team India, fans are hoping for runs from the bat of ‘King Kohli’. Apart from America and Canada, who are learning the basics of cricket, three half-centuries have been scored by Afghanistan while two batsmen of Australia have touched the 50-run mark. So far one half-century has been scored by India, Pakistan, South Africa, Scotland, Netherlands, Oman, Namibia and Papua New Guinea. Rohit Sharma from India’s side and Mohammad Rizwan from Pakistan’s side have scored half centuries.
Gordon and Jordan…. An important coincidence associated with two bowlers of T20 World Cup 2024
Two-time champions England and Indies are waiting for half-century
No batsman of defending champion England has been able to score a half-century in this T20 World Cup so far. However, the team was unlucky that out of the two matches, its match against Scotland was washed out due to rain. Similarly, apart from two-time champion West Indies, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Nepal, Uganda and Ireland are also waiting for a batsman who can score a half-century in the tournament. In this, the teams of Sri Lanka and Uganda have played three matches each. New Zealand has played only one match while the other teams have played two matches each.
There is no one like ‘Jassi’, he never gave more than 50 runs in his entire T20I career
Afghanistan’s Gurbaz is the only batsman to score two fifties
So far in the tournament, only Afghanistan’s Rahmatullah Gurbaz has been able to score two half-centuries. After scoring 76 runs in the team’s first match against Uganda, he played an innings of 80 runs against New Zealand. Gurba is the only batsman to cross the 150-run mark in the current T20 World Cup. Surprisingly, America’s Aaron Jones is currently the batsman with the highest individual score. Jones scored an unbeaten 94 against Canada in the opening match of the tournament.
