T20 World Cup 2024 Points Table: The Super 8 matches have now started in the T20 World Cup 2024. This journey which started with 20 teams has now been reduced to only eight teams. Four more teams will be eliminated in a few days from now. Meanwhile, the points table of Super 8 is getting very interesting. Teams are staking their claim in the semi-finals by defeating each other. The Indian team may have continued its winning campaign by defeating Afghanistan, but in the meantime Australia has defeated Bangladesh and this has improved its net run rate.
Two groups have been formed for Super 8
ICC has formed two groups for the T20 World Cup. India, Australia, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are placed in Group A, while if we talk about Group 2, then England, South Africa, USA and West Indies are included in it. After this, if we talk about Group A i.e. the group of the Indian team, then both India and Australia have won their first matches. But even after this, the Australian team is at the first position. The reason for this is the net run rate. The Australian team has won two points by winning one match and its net run rate is 2.471.
Team India defeated Afghanistan, came second in the points table
Team India managed to beat Afghanistan in its first Super 8 match. The team won the first match and got two points and its net run rate is 2.350. That is, the team is at the second position, but its NRR is slightly less. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see which team from this group reaches the semi-finals.
This is the condition of Group B
After this, if we talk about the second group i.e. B, then here the England team is at the number one position after winning its first match and with a net run rate of 1.343. South Africa also won its first match and got two points and has reached the second position. South Africa’s net run rate is 0.900. USA and West Indies teams have lost their first match, so they are at the third and fourth positions.
If the points are equal then the decision will be based on net run rate
The Indian team has won its first match and now it has to play against Bangladesh on 22 June. If India wins this match too, then its path to the semi-finals will be almost confirmed. But the effort will be to secure its place in the semi-finals by winning all three matches of the Super 8. But if the teams of India and Australia are equal in terms of points, then the decision will be made on the basis of net run rate. Where the matter can get complicated. That is, for the teams that have won now, their chances of reaching the last 4 have only increased, the decision will be made on the basis of the remaining matches.
