New Delhi. After the announcement of the Indian team for the T20 World Cup, chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Indian team’s Rohit Sharma held a press conference in Mumbai today. Agarkar and Rohit included KL in the team in this press conference. Answered many other questions including not selecting an experienced player like Rahul. In response to the selection of 4 spinners in the Indian team, captain Rohit Sharma said, ‘I cannot tell everything right now. I will not say much because the opposing captain will also be listening. Rohit said, I will reveal in West Indies why 4 spinners have been selected.
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that KL Rahul is a brilliant player and there is no doubt about it. The team has been selected according to the slots that were vacant with the team. KL plays in the upper order whereas Team India needed a keeper batsman who plays in the middle order. Rishabh Pant plays at number 4-5. Whereas Sanju Samson can be played anywhere up or down as per the need, that is why Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson were selected in place of KL Rahul.
Explaining the reason for including Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh in the team as reserve players, Agarkar said, keeping Rinku Singh out was the most difficult. Same was the case with Shubhman Gill. We looked at the team combination first and then had to take tough decisions. On the question of there being no off-spinner in the team, Rohit said, Washington Sundar has not played much in recent times. For this reason we had to choose between Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel. Akshar was in excellent form when he played against Australia. He bowls well and can also be used in the middle order in batting, hence Akshar was selected.
