New Delhi. England has registered a record-breaking win over Oman in the T20 World Cup 2024. The English team finished off Oman in just 19 balls in a do-or-die match. Butler and company first bundled out Oman for just 47 runs. Then won the match with 101 balls to spare. This is the record for the biggest win in terms of balls remaining in the history of the T20 World Cup. Earlier this record was in the name of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka defeated the Netherlands in 2014 with 100 balls to spare.
With this win, England has strengthened its hopes of reaching the Super-8 of the T20 World Cup. England’s team has now come to third place with 3 points in its Group B. Only Australia (6) and Scotland (5) have more points than England. Namibia is at fourth place with 2 points. Oman (0) lost all its four matches and did not even open its account in the points table.
It is clear that to remain in the race for Super-8, England not only needed a win, but the margin should also have been bigger. Only then would it have gone ahead of Scotland in net run rate. England did just that. It bowled out Oman for 47 runs in just 13.2 overs. After this, it won the match by losing 2 wickets in just 3.1 overs. After this win, it has 3 points in the points table. England’s (3.081) net run rate is also now better than Scotland’s (2.164).
Leg spinner Adil Rashid performed the best in this match for England. He took 4 wickets for 11 runs in his spell of 4 overs. He also received the Player of the Match award for this performance. Jofra Archer and Mark Wood took 3-3 wickets for 12 runs each. From Oman, only one Shoaib Khan (11) could touch double figures.
