New Delhi . The 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Tehwwur Rana will be extradited from the US and brought to India on Wednesday. The US Supreme Court rejected the petition of Tehwavur Rana to stop India’s extradition. Sources said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will bring Tahwwur Rana, the mastermind of 26/11 to India.
It is not clear whether he will be brought to Delhi or Mumbai. However, sources said that he is expected to enter Mumbai, where the plan of 26/11 was carried out. Sources also said that he would spend the first few weeks in NIA custody.
Rana killed 157 people in the 2008 Mumbai attack.
The US court rejected his petition to stop his extradition in India. The US Supreme Court rejected Rana’s application demanding a ban on extradition of India. The application was presented before Chief Justice John Roberts.
On February 27, the Supreme Court Associate Justice and the Ninth Circuit Circuit Justice Elena Kagan presented the ’emergency application to stop the pending trial of the habeas corpus petition’.
Earlier, Rana was demanding to stop his extradition and surrender to India to the litigation (including the end of all the appeals) on the basis of the merit-demerits of his petition on 13 February.
He argued that India is a violation of its extradition American law and the United Nations anti -torture convention, as it is in danger of torture in India. However, the court did not accept these arguments.
India had said on 7 March that it is working closely with the US to complete the formalities required for Rana’s extradition.
US President Donald Trump approved Rana’s extradition after a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Washington last month.
