Taiwan minister Joseph Wu
Taipei: The world is aware of the ongoing standoff between China and Taiwan. China has been threatening to attack Taiwan. China claims that Taiwan is its territory. Meanwhile, Taiwan’s outgoing Foreign Minister Joseph Wu has said that Russia and China are helping each other to increase their regional reach. Wu said that democratic countries should take action against autocratic countries that threaten their rights and sovereignty.
‘Democratic countries should unite’
Joseph Wu’s remarks come as Russian President Vladimir Putin is on a visit to China amid Russia’s attack on Ukraine. Wu has called on democratic countries to unite to counter Russia and China’s military aggression in Europe, the South China Sea and beyond. He said, “Putin’s visit to Beijing is an example of two big authoritarian countries supporting each other, working together, supporting each other’s expansionism.”
‘It would be devastating’
Joseph Wu in an interview called on Western powers to continue supporting Ukraine in the fight against Russia to send a message that democracies will protect each other. “If Ukraine loses in the end, I think China will be emboldened and may take even more ambitious steps to expand its power in the Indo-Pacific, which would be devastating to the international community,” Wu said. ”
Danger of possible conflict in South China Sea
Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Wu warned about the danger of potential conflict in the South China Sea. He said that this is an area rich in resources. It is also a major route for global trade. In such a situation, China is creating mutual regional tension with many of its neighbors. It is also worth noting that Putin and Chinese leader Xi Jinping have also reiterated the growing partnership between the two countries, which is deepening amid their increasing tensions with Western countries.
