A sexual harassment incident has come to light with a 13 -year -old girl living in a government institution in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. The incident has been carried out by the security guard of the institute. On receiving the information, the police have registered a case against the accused under the relevant sections of the Indian Code and arrested him. Politics in the state has also intensified due to this.
Tamil Nadu’s Social Welfare and Women Empowerment Minister Geeta Jeevan said that the incident took place in a house in Tambaram. During this time, the minor girl suffered a leg injury. Political parties including AIADMK and BJP have condemned the incident. He said that the age of the accused is being told 50 years. The police arrested her after the victim was identified.
He further said, “The man tried to sexually harass the 13 -year -old girl. Her leg was injured. Here she underwent surgery at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. I met her and her mother. Police action has been taken on the basis of CCTV footage and investigation. The government will not take such incidents lightly as the Chief Minister has strict instructions.”
CM’s Stalin has directed that strict action should be taken against crimes against children and women. He said that after the incident, it has been decided to appoint women as security personnel in such institutions in the state. Reacting to this, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi’s Palaniswami has expressed grief over the incident.
He criticized the ruling DMK and said that the incident took place in the government house. In the social media post, the Leader of the Opposition demanded an inquiry to find out whether more children were affected by the accused. BJP leader and former state president K Annamalai said that parents are shocked and scared by the incident. He has demanded adequate security measures in such houses.
