Kabul. The Foreign Ministry in Kabul has announced that a Taliban delegation led by Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki has left for Turkey to attend the Antalya Diplomacy Forum. The forum will run from Friday to Sunday. The ministry said that although the main focus of the forum would be the Ukraine crisis, the Afghan situation would also be part of the discussion.
“Afghanistan will be discussed with international countries and the acting foreign minister will talk to representatives of other countries on the sidelines of the meeting,” Tolo News quoted Zia Ahmed Takal, deputy spokesman for the Taliban government, as saying.
The Taliban had earlier said that a delegation led by Muttaki had been invited to attend the forum, which would include diplomats from Turkey’s foreign ministry and representatives from more than 200 countries.
Another Taliban deputy spokesman, Bilal Karimi, claimed that “the participation of the Afghan delegation in this meeting and discussions on various matters would be helpful given the current situation.”
Muttaki has so far attended meetings in Turkey, Iran, Russia, Pakistan and Norway and called for international recognition for the Taliban government in Afghanistan, Tolo News reports.
He is also scheduled to attend the third round of meetings between regional foreign ministers in Beijing later this month.
