Chennai. In an attempt to prevent sexual crimes against children, a special court in Chennai sentenced a 49-year-old man to death for sexually assaulting his daughter, while the girl’s mother was sentenced to life imprisonment by the court.
The case of sexual abuse came to light when a girl studying in class 11 narrated her ordeal to her friends in school, which they informed the teachers.
The teachers informed the Childline officials about the matter. The Child Line volunteers rescued the girl and lodged a complaint with the all-women police station in Guindy.
The victim’s father was arrested under the Juvenile Justice Act.
Special Court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Judge M. Rajalakshmi sentenced a 49-year-old man to death for sexually abusing his daughter. This decision was pronounced on Friday.
The judge in his order said that the person has to be hanged till he dies and said that the sentence is subject to sanction from the Madras High Court.
Section 6 of the POCSO Act states that for the offense of grievous sexual assault, capital punishment is given.
The girl disclosed to the investigating officers that her father used to beat her up from the age of 7 and this trend continued even after she grew up.
In her statement, the victim told the police that she got pregnant from her father in 2019 and forced her to undergo an abortion with the help of her mother.
She also revealed to the police that her father had inserted some objects in her private parts and forced her to sleep naked with him.
