Chennai. Tamil Nadu on Monday passed a censure motion against the Karnataka government’s decision to build a dam on the Cauvery river in contempt of the Supreme Court. In Tamil Nadu Assembly, Water Resources Minister Duraimurugan moved a motion of condemnation against the Karnataka government’s decision to build a dam on the Kovari river at Mekedatu, which was passed by a voice vote by all the members.
The assembly also urged the central government to neither provide any technology nor environmental clearance for the project.
Chief Minister MK Stalin thanked all the members for passing the resolution unanimously. He said that the Tamil Nadu government would do everything possible to stop the construction of this dam.
He said that the Tamil Nadu government would not accept any allocation from the central government to the Karnataka government for the construction of this dam.
He said that the Tamil Nadu government would approach the court against this plan of the Karnataka government.
Former Chief Minister of the state and Leader of Opposition in the House K Palaniswami also condemned the Karnataka government’s decision to build the dam.
