The country’s largest automaker Tata Motors is very excited about the success of its famous electric sport utility vehicle Nexon EV in the domestic market. It is the country’s best-selling electric vehicle and now news is coming that the company is preparing to launch its new long version variant in the market. This new variant will offer a much better driving range than the current model.
According to the report published in Autocar, the company will use a better battery pack in this new variant of Tata Nexon EV. A 40kWh battery pack can be given in this SUV, which will be sold along with the current model. Currently, the Tata Nexon is the most popular in its segment and the Nexon EV alone accounts for 60 per cent of the total electric vehicles sold in the country.
Key highlights of the new Nexon EV:
It will be powered by a 40kWh capacity battery, which will provide better driving range, which is up to 30 percent better than the current model. In the current model, the company uses a battery pack of 30.2kWh capacity. Both these models will be available for sale together. It is being told that the company can introduce this new long range variant for sale in the market by the middle of next year. Its current model offers a driving range of 180 to 200 kms in the real world.
There will be no change in the design etc. of the new model. But it is believed that after the induction of the new battery pack, the size of its boot space may decrease slightly. Apart from this, the weight of the car can also increase by about 100 kg. According to media reports, the official long range variant will come with a driving range of 400 km, which will be capable of giving a range of around 300 to 320 km in the real world.
In the new Nexon EV, the company can offer selectable re-gen modes, which is being seen as the biggest change. This allows the driver to adjust the intensity and regenerate braking. This will benefit in improving the driving range. Apart from this, some cosmetic changes can also be seen such as new designed alloy wheel, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) etc. After all these changes, the price of the car can be expensive by about 3 to 4 lakh rupees. It is expected that the company can offer it at an initial price of Rs 17 lakh. The starting price of the current model is Rs 14.24 lakh.
