TDSAT said in an order that exemption from payment of AGR can be given to public sector companies only if the same exemption is being given to private sector telecom companies as well. In an order issued on February 28 on a petition by Netmagic Solutions and Data Engineers Global, TDSAT said, “It cannot give exemption from payment of AGR to government companies. This order of TDSAT chairman Shiv Kirti Singh and member Subodh Kumar Gupta can have far-reaching effects.
Relief was given to 13 government companies
The TDSAT order could have an impact on 13 state-owned companies that have got telecom or related licences. Till now the government had given relief to these companies from payment of AGR dues. These companies include Oil India, RailTel Corporation, POWERGRID, Software Technology Park of India, GAIL India, Delhi Metro, ONGC and Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizer Corporation.
